How to Take Control of Your Life

I. You Can control your life! There is no such thing as being a helpless victim; you are a victim only if you choose to allow yourself to be one. You always have options; you simply need to exercise them. Some common options are:

Through these choices, you create your own physical, emotional, and spiritual health and happiness.

But, what about genetic predisposition to certain illnesses? Aren't you usually a victim there? NO. You can, through skillful living, prevent most of these tendencies from materializing.

Then what about unexpected accidents, such as natural disasters, car wrecks, criminal assaults, etc.?

Again, most of these potentials can be adverted - by heeding one's instincts and observing the clues around us. And even if an undesirable event does occur, you have the choice of learning and growing from it, or perceiving it in an unconstructive, defeatist way. You CAN be the director of your life! BELIEVE in this inborn ability.

II. How can I begin to assume control? The essential first step in gaining control of your life is accepting full responsibility for it. (If you blame outside circumstances for your situation, you thwart your own growth and give away your innate control. You actually cheat yourself.) YOU are responsible! Only you can make it happen!

III. Then what? Commit to gaining control! Make it a priority!

IV. What specific techniques or steps can I employ to gain and maintain this control? Having control of your life is a learned skill.
